IAM (Identity and Access Management) is a framework that ensures users can appropriately access the correct resources. This includes creating user identities, securing them, and removing access rights when necessary.
Authentication Techniques: This is typically done with a combination of a username and password, but can also use biometric data or physical devices like smart cards.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): This typically involves a combination of something you “know” (a password), something you “have” (a smart card or phone), and something you “are” (biometric data).
Access Controls and Rights Management: This is typically based on users’ roles and responsibilities. Rights management determines what kind of permission users have to perform certain tasks. This could include a user’s ability to read, write, edit, or delete a file.
These techniques and methods are vital for securing an organization and protecting sensitive data. Authenticating user identities and managing their access helps prevent unauthorized access and strengthens defences against potential cyberattacks.
